Welcome to our Survival Guide!

Here you will find informations about us, that should help you to "survive" bonding-events in Stuttgart.

First we like to tell you something about us (bonding) and our events.
If you already know that, you can scroll down to the infos about Stuttgart.

What is bonding?
As a German student organisation, we usually start describing bonding by defining the
word. In English, the word "bonding" describes what we do in a pretty good way. We are a student initiative which organises events to help students to obtain contact with industry specialists and potential future employers. To reach this goal, we offer our students a broad range of projects. We organize oneday case studies, excursions and lectures.

Our biggest project is the bonding job fair: through establishing direct contact between students and company representatives, the visiting students are able to gain an insight into the numerous fields of work and industry. For instance, they can collect
information on internship programmes and make initial contact with a company they are interested in.

What do you need to bring to European Workshops?
- first of all: YOU!
- BEST/bonding spirit
- a visa, necessary only for citizens of , Russia, Ukraine and Turkey for all the other countries, where BEST is active you won’t need visa. (we will help you if you need an invitation)
- rain-clothes and sweater are needed all year. In winter you need to be prepared for tempereatures below 0° C, in summer bring your swimming-wear.
- a typical drink, food and funny song from your country for the international evening
- sleeping bag
- you should sleep enough BEFORE the workshop

Health

Please bring a foreign health insurance with you! In most European countries you can get the E111-form, which is a European standard. Anyway if you make a private insurance make sure it has a sufficient cover. It is also sufficient if you’ve got the new european health insurance card.
You can drink water from the tap everywhere in the country without problems (sometimes it is even better than soda).

Money/Prices
The German currency is the Euro - 1 Euro = 100 Euro-Cent.
The price-level in Germany is about European average, it’s a little bit higher in Stuttgart.
Example of prices in Stuttgart:
Lager-Beer (0,5 liters) in a pub: 3,00 – 3,50€;
Wheat beer 2,80 – 3,30 €;
At the supermarket: 50- 80 ct. (0,5 litres)
Metro ride within Stuttgart: 2,15 € (single trip), 8,20 € (four times journey) or 5,80 €
( inner city - the whole day)
Döner-Kebap: 3,50 €
BigMac: 3,20 €
Beer-box (10 liters) in the supermarket: 13 €
Cheap dinner in a pub: 7,00 €
Tips:
Tips are not obligatory in Germany but quite normal in bars, restaurants and taxis.

Opening hours
Most shops and offices are opened between 8 A.M. and 6 P.M. (bakeries open earlier), some until 8 P.M., on saturday only in the morning (some supermarkets are open all day, offices don’t work on saturday). Besides you can buy most things in some gasstations 24 hours a day (but it’s way more expensive).

How to get here
There are several different ways of getting to Stuttgart.

If you want to come by train, for example via Paris or Munich or anywhere else, you’ll find everything you need at www.bahn.de. You will arrive at Stuttgart central station and someone will pick you up there.

If you want to fly and you can’t find a cheap flight directly to Stuttgart, you may try going to Munich, and to Stuttgart by train, or from Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden.
Train tickets from Munich: €40 - €55 (one way)
Train Tickets from Karlsruhe: €18 - €20 (one way)

If you come by car, just use google maps.

If you need any other info on how to get here (on foot, hitchhiking, teleportation, ect…)
just write us, we’ll be glad to help out

Infos about Stuttgart
Stuttgart has 588,000 inhabitants, so it’s number 7 among the major cities in Germany and since 1952 the capital of the federal state of Baden-Wurttemberg. The city lies in the heart of this state on the river Neckar and is one of the most powerful industrial regions in Germany, being home of Daimler, Bosch and Porsche. So you can imagine, this is the centre of the German automobile-industry.

But not only cars are produced here, some major high-tech companies have their headquarters in or around Stuttgart, too.

But there are many other things Stuttgart is famous for. Each autumn the “Cannstatter Wasen”, the number 2 of beer festivals in the world (right after the Oktoberfest in Munich) takes place. But there a lot of cultural opportunities all year. E.g. there are two big musicals played nearly every evening. Or a lot of cinemas, theatres and bars. Just discover yourself ;-)

At the first glance you perhaps may not see it, but Stuttgart is also students city. There are 2 Universities, a University of applied Science and several colleges for music, arts, print and media or management and technology, all around Stuttgart

Of course in such a big city like Stuttgart, there are a lot of things to do and to look at. First of all there is the television tower. It’s the symbol of Stuttgart and it’s the highest building here (217 m) and it offers a great view over the whole region. Also there are the old and the new Castle in the city centre, the Königsstraße (for shopping), a lot of parks, the zoo (Wilhelma) and if you are interested in cars, the Museum’s of Daimler and Porsche.

Accomodation
Dear partycipants, we, the organicers are proud to present to you the Camp Feuerbach (in german: Jugendtreff/Camp Feuerbach).
Our accomodation for this autumn course in Stuttgart will be slightly outside the city, but still reachable with the underground (10 to 15 min). We've got our own party room with a kitchen and a skatepark right next to it.

We are quite happy and relieved to be there, as it's on hell of a cool place. We've been there before for our autumn course 2008 and it's got a lot of advantages, not just for partying. I'll upload some pictures so you can see were we will be partying/sleeping within those 2 weeks. We will all be sleeping in one big room (really big), which can be seperated through curtains. There will be enough room for bags and stuff so nobody has to sleep with his suitcase under his head ;)
There are be two big bathrooms with showers, one for the girls, one for the boys, but we were told we could handle that ourselves ;p If you've got any questions, feel free to ask us.

Your orgaNicer Simon
